Firefighters in the nation's capital battled a fire involving a number of train cars in a maintenance yard.

D.C. firefighters declared a hazmat incident due to the diesel fuel involved and used foam during the operation. 

Radiant heat from the blaze also damaged some cars, WJLA reported.

The cause remains under investigation.
